Tie
your hair up at night with a silk or satin scarf. This prevents
your hair from "catching" on the pillow case and breaking
off. This also keeps the natural hair oils in your hair and not
on the pillowcase.
___________
Be
Patient. Clear all tangles and snarls with the fingers first,
then, starting from the bottom, using your wide tooth comb, complete
the detangling process. Using an leave-in conditioner at this
stage, while the hair is still damp will help keep the hair moisturized
and help ease out the tangles.
___________
Stay
away from alcohol based products; look for either Alcohol or SD
Alcohol on the label. Then leave it on the shelf. Alcohol is extremely
drying to Ethnic hair.

If
your hair is very curly, don't try to go bone straight -- you'll
end up with a lot of damage, breakage and a dry look. Instead, consider
relaxing the hair as much as possible and using styling tools to
get the look you want. Try to wait a couple of weeks, and/or do
a few deep conditionings after removing extensions, before you straighten
or perm your hair -- the damage they cause can result in an uneven
process and breakage. If you do it yourself, look for a mild product
-- many that are formulated for African American hair are too harsh.
Don't repeat the processing more than every three months.

Never
scratch your scalp because you can cut the skin, making favorable
for an assortment of bacteria. In such a case, relieve the itch
by swiping the scalp with an astringent-soaked pad or cotton
ball, cleansing the scalp of oily buildup while re-energizing
your skin.

Rinse
your hair twice as long as it took to wash it. Shampoo residue
will dry your hair and break it off. Focus conditioning on
the ends. They are the oldest part of the hair, and more prone
to damage.

Up Do's
Start
with the back of your hair and grab a piece of hair like
you're doing a ponytail. Twist clockwise bring up and put
your bobby pins in. Four to six usually do it and don't
forget to criss-cross the bobby pins if you feel you need
a little support in the back of your updo. Take your top
piece that's left over and twist very lightly.
Once it is secured and you
have the desired height you want on the top, pin it
down with 2 bobby pins. Now take each side twist
it back to secure on the top building into a pile.
Fix your bangs and pull any front hair back that's
been left over and secure with a bobby pin.

Alcohol & Hair Growth
Avoid
or minimize excessive use of alcohol, as it dilates
blood vessels and increases flow of blood to the tissues.
Alcohol is antagonistic to vitamins and minerals,
so avoid drinking alcohol.

Shampoo Tips
Before
wetting your hair for shampooing, comb through with a wide tooth
comb to prevent tangles.
Apply with the hands and fingers, massage firmly in rotating
and circular movements.
Don't rub just blot the wet hair with a towel and then smooth
the towel along the length of your hair.
Shampooing can be done as often (ideally every 3-7 days) as
required to keep the hair clean and healthy, as long as you
condition regularly.
