Tie your hair up at night with a silk or satin scarf. This prevents your hair from "catching" on the pillow case and breaking off. This also keeps the natural hair oils in your hair and not on the pillowcase.

___________

Be Patient. Clear all tangles and snarls with the fingers first, then, starting from the bottom, using your wide tooth comb, complete the detangling process. Using an leave-in conditioner at this stage, while the hair is still damp will help keep the hair moisturized and help ease out the tangles.

___________

Stay away from alcohol based products; look for either Alcohol or SD Alcohol on the label. Then leave it on the shelf. Alcohol is extremely drying to Ethnic hair.

Cleaning Out Your Cosmetic Bag

You wake-up, look at the clock and realize that you’ve over-slept. It’s 7:35 a.m., and you have to be at work at 8. Luckily you’ve taken a shower the night before, you throw on your clothes and there is no way your going to work without any make-up on. You reach for you make-up bag and you find that you’ve wasted 20 minutes searching for your staple make-up products.

If this sounds familiar, then cleaning out your make-up bag is way overdue. "Having products at your fingertips not only makes it possible for you to leave the house on time.

The basics. Believe it or not, beauty products do expire. Mascara should be replaced every 3 months. Liquid foundation and concealer should be replaced every 6 to 8 months. Pressed powder, loose powder, shimmer powder, eye shadows, blush, lip gloss and lip stick, should be replaced once a year. Eye and lip liners should be replaced every 18 months. If you have any beauty products that surpass the expiration date, should be tossed. You should typically keep one item per purpose in your cosmetic bag: a single foundation, powder, mascara, and eyeliner, plus a lipstick or two. This will keep you from fumbling through items your not going to use.

How to choose your bag. Put as much thought into selecting a makeup bag as you do an evening bag. It should be small enough to tote effortlessly but have an opening wide enough to let you find your cosmetics. Choose materials like cotton or plastic, which are washable and can withstand any make-up spills. Silk and satin are lavish but delicate, and they can easily get tattered or stained. Also look for a plastic or vinyl lining that can be easily cleaned.
