Tie your hair up at night with a silk or satin scarf. This prevents your hair from "catching" on the pillow case and breaking off. This also keeps the natural hair oils in your hair and not on the pillowcase.

___________

Be Patient. Clear all tangles and snarls with the fingers first, then, starting from the bottom, using your wide tooth comb, complete the detangling process. Using an leave-in conditioner at this stage, while the hair is still damp will help keep the hair moisturized and help ease out the tangles.

Stay away from alcohol based products; look for either Alcohol or SD Alcohol on the label. Then leave it on the shelf. Alcohol is extremely drying to Ethnic hair.

Say Farewell to Dark Circles!

If dark circles seem to stick around no matter what you try, it's time to check out some new solutions. Read on for honest information on why they occur, and what you can do to stop them. You can try one strategy or try them all till you find the one that works for you!

Strategy 1: Eat a healthy, balanced diet and drink plenty of water. A whole host of cosmetic problems can be attributed to vitamin deficiencies. Dark circles and puffiness are often attributed to lack of vitamin K or inadequate antioxidants. Be sure to get plenty of fruits and vegetables—especially cabbage, spinach, and other leafy green vegetables—and take a daily vitamin supplement if necessary. Get adequate fluids to improve circulation.

Strategy 2: Apply an eye cream containing vitamin K and retinol. Dark circles may be caused by a deficiency of vitamin K. Regardless of the cause, recent research has shown that skin creams containing these two ingredients reduce puffiness and discoloration significantly in many patients. Long-term daily use seems to have the greatest effect.

Strategy 3: Try sunscreen. Since the sun can alter the pigment in the skin, causing it to darken (think suntan), eye creams with sunscreen can halt this pigment-deepening process.

Strategy 4: Step up sleep. The connection between too little sleep and dark circles is a loose one, but some surmise that lack of sleep causes the skin to look pale, making dark circles more prominent. Aim for seven to eight hours and note any changes in your circles.

Strategy 5: Cover with concealer. To do it the right way, choose a concealer that matches your skin tone or is one shade lighter. Don't go for a concealer that's substantially lighter or different in tone than the rest of your skin; it will look obvious and cause your circles to appear grayish or pinkish.

Strategy 6: In addition to treatments. Cover with concealer. Choose a concealer that matches your skin tone or is one shade lighter. Choosing a concealer that is substantially lighter or different in tone, will look obvious and cause your dark circles to appear grayish or pinkish. Pat your concealer onto the dark circles. Apply sparingly -- a little will give substantial coverage. Now use your ring finger to pat the concealer into your skin. Rubbing will simply remove it. Once it has been blended, check your results in the mirror. Need more coverage? Repeat the application. When you have the coverage you desire, use a cotton ball or powder puff to apply translucent powder over the concealer. Whisk away excess with a fluffy powder brush.
