Tie your hair up at night with a silk or satin scarf. This prevents your hair from "catching" on the pillow case and breaking off. This also keeps the natural hair oils in your hair and not on the pillowcase.

___________

Be Patient. Clear all tangles and snarls with the fingers first, then, starting from the bottom, using your wide tooth comb, complete the detangling process. Using an leave-in conditioner at this stage, while the hair is still damp will help keep the hair moisturized and help ease out the tangles.

___________

Stay away from alcohol based products; look for either Alcohol or SD Alcohol on the label. Then leave it on the shelf. Alcohol is extremely drying to Ethnic hair.

Facial Facts

Benefits of facials

A facial is a vital step towards beautiful skin. Facials thoroughly cleanse your face and remove the top dead layers of the skin resulting in having beautiful and glowing skin. Facial moisturizes your face effectively, aids in faster cell renewal and relaxes the muscles of the face. Facials can also treat problems like dark patches, acne, restoring skin color and toning the skin. One of the joys of womanhood is taking the time out to pamper ourselves so we can face each new day looking and feeling our best.

Basic Steps of a Facial

A facial involves a few basic steps:

  •  Cleansing
  • Skin analysis, where the esthetician puts eye pads over your eyes and looks at your Skin through a brightly lit magnifying lamp.
  • Exfoliation, usually while a steam vapor is directed at your face.
  • Extraction of blackheads if you want it and it's suitable for your skin type. (It can cause broken capillaries.)
  • Facial massage to relax you and stimulate your skin and facial muscles.
  • A mask targeted to your skin type (dry, oily, combination, sensitive, mature.)
  • Application of toners and protective creams.
  • Advice on home skin care

Who Gives A Facial?

A facial is given by a licensed esthetician  or can be done at home

A facial usually starts around $75 at a day spa in a smaller city. Prices will be higher at destination spas, resort and hotel spas. Special masks and serums also make the price go higher.

You can also purchase you own facial masks. The price for facial masks may vary. You can purchase a facial mask from Sephora stores nationwide, or sephora.com. Sephora has a wide variety of facial masks to choose from. Some facial Sephora carries are: Shiseido White Lucent Intensive Brightening Mask $66, Brandt Skincare Poreless Purifying Mask $40, Murad Resurgence Hydrating Gel Mask $27. You can also purchase facial masks at Ulta stores nationwide, or Ulta.com. Some facial masks Ulta carries are: Olay Intensives Deep Cleansing Clay Mask $6.36, Freeman Away We Glow Blueberry/Champagne Facial Peel-Off Masque $1.99.

How Often Should I Get A Facial?

If at all possible, get a facial every four to six weeks because that's how long it takes the skin to regenerate. Try to have a facial at least four times a year, as the season changes. You may need it more often if you are trying to clear up a case of acne.
